Designing your board:
There are wide variety of designs, woods, and options
available. If you don't have a specific design in mind, the
first step is to check out the
Gallery and take
a look at all of the past boards and tables. If you find a
specific board there that is exactly what you're looking for, that's
all you need to do. Just let us know and we will build a board
exactly like the one you've selected. Also, you can check out
our Store.
Listed there are some of the most popular designs and you can simply
add them to the shopping cart and check out. If you can't find
exactly what you're looking for in the
Gallery or
Store, begin
creating your own design. This may be as simple as making one
change to an existing design or as involved as designing a board from
scratch. When designing your own board, a good first step is to
choose a basic style that best fits your needs. Next, choose a
playing square combination that you like. Then, add in a border.
Finally, add accents and details to personalize the design.
There is additional information located on the
Model 607
Custom page in our store that describes the various components of
the chess boards and gives tips on what to consider when choosing
woods and accents. If
at any time you have a questions about a design, just let us know.
You can provide as little or as much information as you want.
For example, if you have a particular playing square combination in
mind, but are not sure about what border to chose, we can give you
recommendations on what styles, colors, and combinations work best.
Use the board numbers from the gallery to reference design, wood, or
accent choices you like. Also, we can give recommendations on what wood combinations work best
with specific chess set colors, what accents go best with various
color schemes, what finishes work best, as well as a variety of other
information. In some case we can even use software to create
3D models of your designs so you can see how they will look before
construction even begins (charges may apply). The design process
can often take a while, but is the most important step in getting a
chess board that is exactly right for you. Make sure to take as
much time as you need, ask any questions you have, and enjoy the
process!

Prices:
Because of frequent fluctuations in the prices of lumber, we do not
post prices on all the pictured boards and tables at all times.
Additionally, because of the custom nature of most designs, custom
prices must be calculated. However, in the
Store section
of the site, you can find find current prices listed for some of the
most popular chess board designs. Just click on the design and
you will find a summary of the specifications and the price located at
the bottom of the page. Also, on the
Model 607
Custom and
Model 1003
Custom pages in the Store section, you can calculate the prices of
boards in a variety of woods and accent combinations. To do
this, simply take note of the wood choices and accents choices you
wish to use, go to the appropriate model page, and use the drop-down
menus to input your specific choices for each element of the chess
board (the Model 607 Custom page provides information on the different
elements of the boards). The price will be displayed at the
bottom of the page and will update in real time as you make changes
using the drop-down menus. If the design you are interested in
is not a Model 607 or 1003 board, you can still use those pages
to estimate the price, since many similar designs will
be similarly priced (please e-mail us for final, exact prices).
If you are interested in a design that is not similar to anything in
the store, or if you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail us
for a price quote.

are hand built to order from scratch and so require time to complete.
Also, because of the large variety of species available, we do not
stock a large inventory of wood and in most cases have to order the
specific wood necessary to complete the specific project
Very rarely we have pre-built, fully completed boards available.
When available, the will be posted on the home page and in the Store.
